An Introduction
I abandoned my blog a while ago, but now I find that I need a place to house long-form comments and other information to share. Yes you can use Twitlonger, etc., but I find this much simpler and rewarding.
Struggling to find a name, I ended up using "The Mutthering Pot," a phrase which comes from a passage in Joyce's Finnegans Wake by way of Books at the Wake by James S. Atherton, as quoted in Marshall McLuhan's seminal work The Gutenberg Galaxy:
"A bone, a pebble, a ramskin...leave them to cook in the mutthering pot: and Gutenmorg with his cromagnon charter, tintingfats and great prime must once for omniboss stepp rubrikredd out of the wordpress."
The full quote from Joyce reads:
"A bone, a pebble, a ramskin; chip them, chap them, cut them up allways; leave them to terracook in the muttheringpot: and Guttenmorg with his cromagnom charter, tintingfast and great primer must once for omniboss step rubrickredd out of the wordpress else is there no virtue more in alcohoran."
Hope I typed that properly lest I be stoned by James Joyce's fans. (Or perhaps I should have been stoned when I typed it).
Anyway, I'll leave you to interpret this passage as best you can. I think that it conjures up alchemy and communications rather nicely, though written in a language that would surely confound the twittering hordes.
